I am a kindergarten teacher in CA. I have been using a district book bag program in my classroom for a lot of years. The program consists of 30 different books. The children are able to choose a book bag and do a project on that particular book weekly. Each week they will have a different book and by the end of the year they will have had at least 25 of them. My district used to buy new hardback books to replace old, broken ones. They have not replaced my books in 3 years. In order for me to keep the program running, I have replaced several of the books in the last couple of years, but have noticed that most of the series needs replacing. I have taped and glued several of the books together, but it does not seem to be lasting any more. My children look forward to choosing a new book weekly and can't wait to do their projects. The best part of the program is when the children return to school and are excited to share what they did for their book project. They love presenting! I am writing this proposal in order to replace the broken or damaged books in my book bag program. I'm hoping to continue such a valuable and wonderful program.
