My project basically needs an aquarium, a few fish and aquarium upkeep/setup materials like gravel, a filter, food, etc. I am also requesting a full river ecosystem setup which displays the various parts of a river ecosystem.

I teach 6th grade science in a wonderful middle school in the Bronx. Currently, I am responsible for providing stimulating, fun, learning experiences for four classrooms full of future scientists, doctors, and researchers. Unfortunately, my school's funding does not match my desire for providing my students with a fun, fair chance at receiving an equitable, solid foundation in science. I would like to help stimulate my students' imaginations by having living ecosystems within our classroom! Part of our mandated curriculum this year involves the study of ecosystems. I would like to provide a tangible example of ecosystems by use of aquariums in the classroom. My proposal includes a full river ecosystem kit (it contains plant life as well as fish and other types of organisms), a 10 gallon tank to accompany the ecosystem kit, also a smaller more "hands-on" aquarium with a built in viewer that displays saltwater fish in an "undersea encounter". I'm also requesting a smaller 2-gallon aquarium for viewing by smaller groups of students. By funding this proposal, you will be helping to ensure that my students will receive a stronger foundation in Science. Countless studies have proven that students learn by doing, not by merely reading dry words on a page. Help me to truly add life to their study of ecosystems by literally bringing oceans of learning into their hands!
