Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school is a large population inner city middle school. I teach sixth grade English and Ancient Civilizations. Teaching students about prehistoric and ancient facts can be quite challenging. Although our textbooks and certain websites provide information, I feel my students are most interested in a variety of pictures and illustrations. Trying to obtain colored copies of artifacts, animals, and replicas is difficult, as most pictures are copyrighted. Additionally, we only have one working computer, which cannot provide many students access to the Internet. In order to better engage my students and appeal to their interests, I would like to include PowerPoint presentations and showcasing websites as part of my lessons. Although our main focus is to create more interest in Ancient Civilizations, I would also like to use the projector for English class. Having our own LCD projector will allow my students to see additional pictures, maps, and illustrations not found in our textbook. They can experience learning from a more relative viewpoint. It is equally important that my students have the opportunity to create and share their own presentations of information they have learned. With an LCD projector, my students will have the opportunity to create their own Power Point presentations to demonstrate concepts they have learned. This will allow them to reinforce their learning by "teaching" their peers and sharpen their skills with technology. Having an LCD projector for our class will help take our history and English lessons beyond paper and books.
