Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I have a dream that one day" people will understand what it means to tolerate and treat others in the way that Dr. Martin Luther King spoke of. My students begin a unit on tolerance at the beginning of each school year for their advanced English course.
Motivated, hardworking, and diligent are just a few adjectives that describe my students.
My students come to school each day with a drive to be successful despite any hardship they may have.
Many of my students stay after school for extra help - not only to become better students, but better people. My students question literature for a better understanding of the text and the world around them.
Many days are spent in Socratic seminars creating knowledge that will help my students become better people. In a world where there is so much hate and civil rights issues, my students are striving to help each other and the community.
My Project
I have requested colored paper, a stapler that will staple through ten or more pages, and class sets of two books. Receiving copies of the books 1984 and The Kite Runner will help my students to discuss inequalities and differences among cultures.
The tolerance unit for my English 10 class helps to build literary analysis skills while helping students understand the rights each person should have based on The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
These novels will help our students begin to see different types of human rights issues and how to take a stance. Finally, these novels will be shared between three teachers to help reach more students as well as used year after year.
The paper will be used for different activities that will help the students develop literary skills by creating foldables for different purposes.
This project is near and dear to my heart.
I want to make a difference and help teach the next generation about tolerating others, civil rights, and celebrating our differences.
I ask my students how they can make a difference; I also ask myself how I can make a difference. Each time I teach this unit, I am able to make a difference and lead by example. How can you make a difference? You can by donating to this project.
