My second grade classroom includes a variety of learners at a low-income school. 27% of the students in my classroom this year are identified with learning disabilities or behavioral disorders. There are a couple more that are on the waiting list to be evaluated yet this year. Many of these students need structure and freedom from distractions in order to be successful. Our classroom meetings are a chance for us to gather together to hear what our day's learning will include and to review essential skills, such as reading a calendar, counting money, and problem solving. Having a classroom rug would provide students boundaries for seating and a visual cue to find that space. It would help students from wandering out of the group space by assigning a seating space that they can identify. I am also requesting privacy screens to guard from distractions. Many learners in my classroom are easily distracted by someone walking by our door or something as simple as a movement by the person next to them. These privacy screens would help prevent these distractions and allow them to concentrate on and complete their work. A class set will allow us all to use them, and not to single out any particular students. Thank you for helping our classroom.
