This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"Generous Donor Empowers Young Writers" I think that would make a GREAT headline, don't you? Last year, I had the pleasure of starting an after school writing program for some struggling students in our middle school. It was great fun, but I'm hoping to engage my kids a bit more this year by giving them a real world audience for their writing. By publishing their work in a school newspaper, they will take more ownership over the work they are producing. We'll be able to make use of our school's desktop publishing program, but we desperately need a camera to add pictures to our newspaper, as well as the actual paper to print it on. Publishing a newspaper will give these students, who are often not recognized academically, something to be proud of in school. At the same time, it will celebrate the accomplishments of all students in the school by highlighting them in the paper- something that is definitely needed in an urban environment where there is often little for these kids to celebrate. Thanks for considering us! I'm looking forward to a fantastic year with my student reporters! With your help, our first story will report on how we launched a paper thanks to our friends through Donors Choose!
