Our school includes 3 inclusion classes with severe special education needs and a 10% special education population throughout the entire school population of 330 students. I am the school librarian who would love to increase the students' motivation to learn through the Playaway devices.

Our students do not have tape recorders at home or MP3 players or IPods. A Playaway device looks like a modern IPod and requires no additional equipment to experience the literature orally. Typically, these students' parents work and are not available to read aloud to them at home.

These special education students need to be empowered to direct their own learning experience and increase their background knowledge. The "cool" factor of the Playaway devices will encourage them to follow through with this learning device.

You could make it possible for students to have a positive attitude toward learning and make them interested in being a life long learner.
