My project needs math materials, games, and books for my students who are beginning to learn how to tell time, read a calendar, count, sort, add, subtract, recognize money, identify 3D shapes, and work with Venn diagrams. These include 1 Counting Kites Math Game, 1 Jumping Frog Math Game, 1 set of Money Dominoes, 1 Telling Time Learning Game, 1 Reversible Graphing Mat, 1 Geometric Solids Set, 1 Beginning Sorting Set, 1 Magnetic Learning Calendar Set, and 1 Tactile Early Learning Math Kit.
I am a first grade teacher at a rural elementary school where 73% of the student population is either on free or reduced lunch. These students have very few resources and their families cannot afford the most basic needs. It is very difficult for their families to provide them with food and clothing. I have been providing as many things as I possibly can for my classroom, but my budget is quite slim and I would greatly appreciate any help that you can give me. A great deal of my money is spent on the supplies that my students need to use in school on a daily basis, as well as other daily expenses.
I would like to make math a marvelous and fun experience for my students by providing them a way to work with math materials, games, and books that they can enjoy as they learn. These math materials will help so many students for many years to come and will teach them so much.
I have requested funding for several games that can be used to make math fun and enjoyable and all the while the students are learning! For example, the ice cream scoops game that I have asked for provides a way for students to sort by size and color which is a critical part of our math curriculum.
Another very fun game that the children would love is the jumping frog math game. This game includes lily pads, ponds, and frogs that allow the children to match the frogs and lily pads together in order to learn how to count and sort. The counting kites game would be so very helpful because my students could build number recognition, as well as improve their counting skills.
The geo solids would allow the students to actually feel the 3D shapes including spheres, cones, cylinders, and cubes. The magnetic calendar would be a very useful tool in our study of how to read a calendar. Part of the first grade math curriculum is how to read a calendar including the days of the week, the weeks in a month, and the months in a year.
The graphing mat that I have asked for would allow the students to graph a great deal of things including shapes and pictures. The money dominoes would allow the students to learn about money recognition in addition to having fun while they learn! The math books that I have asked for will tie in the relevance of math in the every day world and bring math closer to the students in a way that they can understand.
Please help me to help these little ones by contributing these marvelous math materials to our first grade classroom. These math experiences will have such a lasting effect on their education. Thank you for your consideration.
