Colonial Fifth Graders moving "Forward Into the Past". I teach American History to fifth grade students at a Title I school. Our free and reduced lunch counts as well as our student numbers are continuing to rise since Hurricane Rita.

Our students are being offered the opportunity of a lifetime. Our teachers, students, parents, and school community are pulling together to send these children to Colonial Williamsburg in January. After Hurricane Rita struck our area, many of our children saw hopes and dreams destroyed. We began putting together this trip to put the faith back in our children. We want to show them that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

My students need a set of 13 MP3 players for our trip. We will listen to pod casts on the plane about the history of Colonial Williamsburg. Once we arrive in the town students will listen to pod casts about their assigned characters and their position in the town. They will explore Williamsburg, upon locating their character they will conduct and interview using the MP3 player. The player will be used to conduct post-student interviews on the way home.

Technology is expensive and bulky. These MP3 players will provide the solution and enhance our trip of a lifetime. With your help my students will be able to step, "Forward Into the Past" and bring history to life, while learning the required Grade Level Expectations, and fulling their dreams.
