Send Us Spectacular Science Spectrum Tubes!

My students need electrodeless spectrum tubes and the electrodeless tube power supply so that they can safely view the light signatures of elements.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "Science does not know its debt to the imagination." As a teacher, my job is to fire up those imaginations and get my students excited about experiencing science in their classroom. I want to get my students out of the textbook and into the real stuff of science!

My students have all been identified as highly gifted.

These children have special needs and require a differentiated instructional program to provide them with a challenging and rigorous academic setting. My students are inquisitive and thoughtful. They love to learn! It is up to me to bring in as much supplemental materials as possible to stimulate their minds and encourage their exploration of new concepts. Since my students tend to perform very well on standardized tests, they are often overlooked and receive very little funding to support their educational program. Our district provides us only $15 per student to purchase supplemental materials for the entire program. We are a public school comprised of three classrooms. Our small school shares a campus with the resident school for this area. Our school is located in a mostly middle to low socioeconomic area. We have a very strong community and parent base who are all vested in providing support for student achievement

My Project

My students, like most public school students, have been severely impacted by the current economic crisis. I still feel the obligation to provide my students with a hands on learning experience, where their science lessons are based on experience rather than mere observation. I want my students to perform experiments and conduct scientific investigations instead of just reading about them or watching a demonstration. When it comes to chemistry, a very effective tool for studying the elements is with electrodeless spectrum tubes. Spectrum tubes will allow the students to witness the unique traits of each element. Instead of me telling them about the light signatures of the elements, students will be able to witness them. Safety is always a priority with science lessons. The electrodeless spectrum tubes allow the students to get close to the elements without exposing them to the dangerous voltage levels of more antiquated spectrum sets.

In order to be competitive in the world of math and science today, we need to provide our children with a variety of resources and learning experiences as early as possible.

We need to begin their journey through science with lessons that inspire them and spark their imagination. Science should always be hands on. My students and I thank you for considering our project and for supporting our science experiences. Thank you.
