Ms. C. Alta Loma Middle School
South San Francisco, CA Grades 6-8

Hello, I'm a 7th grade teacher at Alta Loma Middle School in South San Francisco. I am a co-advisor for our school's Peer Assistance Program. I'm writing in request of a donation that will go toward a fantastic, character building ropes course for these students. The goal of the Peer Assistance Program is to help maintain a safe and positive school community. Our 12- and 13-year-old program members learn to mediate conflicts between their peers and help individuals overcome personal challenges. Students are chosen for this program based on their potential for leadership, maturity and sensitivity to others. Our hope is that these exceptional students will develop into active and involved community leaders. Alta Loma is representative of the diverse ethnic and socioeconomic community of South San Francisco. Our school population is 34% Latino, 27% Caucasian, 20% Filipino, 9% Asian, 5% Pacific Islander and 4% African American and 1% Indian. About 33% of our student body is classified as socio-economically disadvantaged. The Peer Assistance program consists of 7th and 8th grade students that reflect our diverse student body. With your help we hope to put our students through The Fort Miley Ropes Course. This course is designed to build community within a program and strengthen its individuals. Students will learn to rely on each other as they face physical and mental challenges. With increased self-confidence, these peer assistants will become stronger role models. This is a potentially life-changing experience that the kids would otherwise not have access to. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.
