My Students

My students really want to play their instruments, but sometimes their families can't afford to buy reeds! Please help us get the materials we need!

My students are all 7th and 8th graders in Southern California.

The students at my school come from predominant low income households, but they love to play music. I have about 90 students signed up for beginning band and 45 signed up for advanced band, in addition to students who play in jazz band.

My Project

All woodwind instruments except for flute require a reed in order to play. Reeds can get very expensive, ranging between $2 and $12 a piece, and students can sometimes go through a lot of them when they're beginning an instrument. This grant funds a supply of reeds that will really help my students. Some students choose not to play an instrument because reeds are so expensive, so lets take money out of the equation!

Music education makes a huge difference to children, especially those that come from a low income background like my students.

Music gives students a community and a place to belong. Research shows that students who are involved in music are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college. Giving to my project will allow numerous students to afford to play their instruments without placing a financial burden on their families.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
