Busy Buzzing about Reading

My students need a book bin and organizers to store all of the books that they choose to read.

My Students

We read every day! We read to each other. We read to ourselves. However, we don't have anything to hold all of our books.

I have 26 students in a self-contained kindergarten classroom.

I teach a variety of students including regular education, special need students and English language learners. Most of them are non-readers when they enter school and need to leave kindergarten as beginning readers.

My Project

My students read every day. They have a wide variety of literature to choose. I teach them how to pick books that are appropriate for them. Once they have picked 10-20 books, they need something to store them in. We need a book bin and organizers to store all of the books that they choose to read. Last year, I used magazine holders. They are falling apart and damaging the books. The students need a place to "own" their books for an allotted time period.

I have a passion to expose students to as much reading as possible.

Students learn to read by reading. They get to chose a spot around the room to read. Some of the places include comfy couches, butterfly chairs, bean bag chairs, desks and the floor. Book bins will help them transport the books any where they want to read.
