This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The purpose of reading is understanding. If you do not understand what you read, you are wasting your time." That is how we begin our reading instruction block each day. Each day, my students strive to understand each and every reading piece we have. Yet, still, they struggle at times.

My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere.

My 5th grade class is in a high-need, low income public school, nestled in the heart of southern California. Each student in my class is a vibrant, excited learner, who looks for the next opportunity to learn.

My Project

Comprehension is the foundation of reading. Each day, during our reading block, I take my students through the steps of understanding what they read. Sometimes, though, what I am doing just isn't enough. Sometimes, the students need a different way of looking at their reading passages. That is where these resources come in. Each of the activity centers requested help the students learn a different comprehension strategy. The reading strategies centers will help them to review important strategies as well. The centers and activity stations requested give the students an opportunity to polish up their reading skills in a fun and different way.

With your donation, the students will be given the opportunity to work on their reading comprehension in a way that they just couldn't with my direct instruction.

The activities and centers will allow them to have fun, while still learning important and valuable reading skills.
