My Students

It truly is the simple things in life that give us the most pleasure. When it comes to school children, a heavy duty pencil sharpener, a class set of colored pencils and a tabletop paper center are all that is needed to create pleasure.

I am a reading teacher in a Title I school which is located in New York City.

I service the second and third grades. My students are eager, yet struggling students. They are hard workers who need (dare I say deserve) a little extra help. If only they had basic supplies to enhance their education?

My Project

Imagine a pencil sharpener that didn't overheat. That is an event that happens in school all the time. It is frustrating for children to need to sharpen a pencil, yet they have to wait till the sharpener cools off. This clearly disrupts the educational flow for the day. Now imagine children engaged in learning, all with sharpened colored pencils, working on a fantastic activity while using tabletop paper. That is simple a dream come true for the student and teacher.

I realize that a pencil sharpener and colored pencils are not the most fascinating supplies.

Yet children still need to create using basic supplies, not always technology. Thank you for your consideration.
