Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 6th grade Media & Technology as well as an inclusion class in Math in the Bronx. Our school community has over 80% of our students eligible for free or reduced priced lunch.

Our two-week project is becoming a two-month project. We have no technology lab for our students. Only two lap carts are available for 12 classes. Teachers are required to email a request the day before for usage of lap carts. Resources in our school are available on a first-come, first served basis. Our students voted for and are excited about creating newsletters in our Media & Technology class. They are really looking forward to the finished product.

Teachers deserve all the tools they need to make classroom instruction successful. By having five laptops in the room, the students can continue working with their projects without interruptions. Students will benefit as they will complete their projects in a timely fashion and display them throughout the school for the rest of the school community to see. In the future, our students will learn about Microsoft Publishing and how to create Power Point presentations.

Support of this project would mean that students will be able to complete assigned homework that they can't complete at home because they do not have laptops at home. By having these laptops in the class they can begin doing their research in school. Also, by having an inclusion class, my lessons which are differentiated will include technology in Math.
