My 4th grade class consists of a special education students with disabilities in the areas of language and communication. All of the students are of average intelligence, but are lacking the basic skills to be successful readers and successful in the classroom. For most of my students, English is not their first language. The school has been identified as a school with a high poverty level.

Can you imagine a classroom in the 21st century where the most advanced piece of technology is the old overhead projector like you had when you were a student? That’s my classroom, and my students deserve better! My class is in need of a LCD projector to make learning exciting and accessible. The special education program I teach in does not have a curriculum designed to effectively meet the needs of the students, so we rely heavily on teacher created resources.

A LCD projector would allow me to display and work with the teacher created resources and show engaging videos. It would also allow me to easily save group work, like brainstorming ideas when pre-writing, and print them for students for easier accessibility. Also, group work can be easily saved for students who may be absent! In addition, we would be able to make learning more exciting by being able to easily access great websites that show interactive maps and videos!
