Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in an inner-city high school with a high poverty rate. My class, Health Ed. II, is an elective taken by juniors and seniors.

Can you imagine students actually choosing to take a health class? Students choose this class because there are so many things about their health that they are still interested in that aren't covered in Health Ed. I.

Topics covered range from stress management techniques to relationships. Our biggest, most popular topic is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey. These habits help to prepare the students for college by teaching them to be proactive, to focus on goals, to prioritize obligations, to be team players, to listen sincerely, to take time out for themselves, and most importantly, to become agents for change in their world.

With your sponsorship, my students will become highly effective college students. Learning the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens will give them a competitive edge over other students by giving them greater self-confidence and motivation. These are hallmarks of success.
