Educational Reform (A Teacher's Dream) I will be teaching ninth grade Algebra in a new, small school community. My students live in a high poverty area and before the school's reform had a very low (less than fifty percent) graduation rate. This year the school has been broken up into four small schools with three of them having only 100 students. I, along with my principal and staff, have been working all summer without pay to develop and prepare the school for our new school students. It is a teacher's dream because we have been able to be a part of the decision-making process. Our focus is college preparedness. We have developed a curriculum and school structure such that all students will graduate college-ready and be accepted into a university. Our theme is "Preparing All Students for College and Beyond."

Many of my students have access to computers but may not have access to printers. Some students are living in unstable environments and go from one family member to the next. Even within our schools there is often limited resources available to students and staff of printing paper and the making of copies.

We need access to storage devices. If all students have their own or a shared memory stick they could store their work everywhere they go. Additionally, we could decrease the need for paper by submitting completed work via email. This project will benefit my students by requiring them to become more computer literate and responsible for their work. This project will also serve our community and world at large by decreasing the necessity for paper.

Your contribution will make it possible for my students to save their knowledge and learning everywhere. It will make them more computer literate and allow us to decrease the use of paper in the classroom.
