Hands on Science - The Best Way to Learn!

My students need a find-a-fossil kit, and plaster of paris to make their own fossils; they need a weather center to observe and record the weather, along with charts and books to learn more about the the weather.

I teach 4th grade in a low income school. These students have not had the opportunity to visit children's museums with their families very much, and they haven't had much experience with hands on learning and activities.

My students learn so much better when they can actually see the objects that we are talking about. Imagine the difference in their learning if they can actually dig for fossils and find them hidden in the fossil kit, versus just looking at a textbook with a picture showing a fossil being found. And then to have them make their own fossils would really 'cement' their experience, so to speak. And when it's time to study weather, they can really get the complete picture when they measure and record the weather themselves!

I need to have a fossil finding kit that the students can use to get the real picture of discovering them, and then take it to the next level and identify and record the fossils they found. Then they will be able to make their own fossils. With the weather equipment, students in my class will experience the satisfaction of learning how to record, and even predict the weather. With these new materials, they will experience many exciting ways to learn about weather patterns. By experiencing many different types of media, they will learn in many different ways.

I have seen over and over what a difference it makes when my students can learn science information with the proper tools. I have just transferred to the fourth grade, so these materials would make all the difference in helping these students to truly understand and remember the concepts from fourth grade science.
