I teach general music to approximately 350 students in grades 1-6 in the Delta Region of Arkansas. Instruments give students hands-on musical fun while helping improve hand-eye coordination.

When I inherited my classroom from the previous music teacher, I found a small number of miscellaneous small percussion instruments and not much else. Most of these instruments were in various stages of disrepair, some were even useless. Since then, I have been working hard to obtain larger instruments to support my music instruction. However, I have not yet been able to replace those small percussion instruments with working instruments.

These instruments are a great means for students to explore a variety of musical timbres and sounds. Additionally, small percussion can be used to create quick, easy accompaniments so that the students really feel like they're performing a piece of music, not just singing a song. Students who are less confident with their voices can contribute to performance by performing rhythms with these small instruments.

By helping bring these instruments into our classroom, you will add interest to our musical explorations and provide the students with additional means of experiencing musical performance and sounds.
