My 8th grade girls advisory group is an opportunity for my students to explore their self concepts as young woman and build their self confidences.

The middle school years are filled with many issues and can be somewhat difficult. My girls often worry about fitting in, who is in which clique, who does not belong, and how to survive in their social milieu. In addition, they do not understand their self worth and how their bodies are developing into young ladies.

My students need 22 copies of ''What's Happening to My Body'' Book for Girls. The goal of this project is to provide an atmosphere of trust within my community of girls in which they can learn essential and important life skills. They will be able to read this book and give voice to their feelings in a productive and safe way in advisory. This book will help stimulate my girls to explore their own choices, develop a strong sense of self, and respect their differences.

You will help make it possible for my girls to become effective, confident self-advocates, a trait that will serve them well in their education and their lives after school.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
