Ready For Battle

My students need 12 book titles in order to prepare for the annual Battle of the Books competition.

Battle of the Books 2010. I sponsor a 4th through 8th grade after school book club in an urban, low income school district. These students voluntarily participate in this reading enhancement program.

We've worn out our library cards and incurred overdue fees. There are limited resources available to provide each member of our 12 member team with copies of the books to prepare for the competition. Sharing a couple of books makes it a challenge to discuss and prepare for the Elementary Battle of the Books. These students love to read and discuss the books. If each student had a book to read, book discussion among these avid readers would be promote lively conversations.

We're ready to rumble! 2010 Battle of the Books here we come. Having a book for each member of the group to read, will help my students to gather to test their knowledge on books that they have been reading during the 2009-2010 school year outside of the classroom. Having the books for my students will help my students participate in an after school book club that prepares them for competition for answering questions about plot, characters, and settings with bonus points for giving the full name of the author. My students are ready to compete in the 2010 championship round. Please help my avid readers quench their thirst for books to read.

The Elementary Battle of the Books hosted by the Department of Libraries encourages ongoing reading, teamwork and partnership throughout the course of a year and culminates in a one-day event. With your donation, my students will be prepared for the competition. With your support, we're ready for Battle...Battle of the Books!
