My students need a scientific-grade WeatherBug Weather Station, which will enable our students to not only gather weather data from our neighborhood, but also to interact with the weather data from different schools all over the United States.

"Climate is what you expect, weather is what you get." -Robert Heinlein The school where I teach is one of several public schools in our district that has gone from being a Pre-K through 5th Grade school to now being Pre-K through 8th grade. Our wonderful school is an inner city school with a high percentage of students on free and reduced lunches. I am our school's 6th - 8th grade science teacher and work with 103 students this year.

Our school currently has an entire year of earth science curriculum that is required at the 8th grade and if not in the foreground, studying weather patterns is a constant focus throughout. Our science kits come with several elementary level tools with which to measure the weather, but many of those tools are easily broken, are frequently misinterpreted or simply do not work correctly. Recently I was contacted regarding the opportunity to obtain the WeatherBug station, and a $2000.00 scholarship to assist with the cost.

Upon further inquiry, I discovered that the WeatherBug station & program that is included is absolutely amazing. It not only records 27 different weather measurements in real time, but also includes a digital display unit that is easily read and can be used by the entire school, My World GIS which provides visual representation of WeatherBug data as it relates to geography and a Lifetime site-license to WeatherBug Achieve, the award-winning software curriculum that integrates our weather station data into the entire classroom science experience. This resource is totally amazing. Students will be able to take wind direction and speed using a anemometer, measure rain accumulation with a hydrometer, observe the effects of changing air pressure with a barometer and take the temperature all using the same high quality equipment that meteorologist use. They can use that information to graph and compare to other locales in Oregon and across the country. All of which is required in our science curriculum for the year.

Please help fund the WeatherBug station for our school. It is an amazing piece of scientific equipment that not only will be used this year, but also for many years to come by our entire student body.
