Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 7th grade science to eager students in a high-need area of Southern California.

My students start the year eager to do labs. Despite the fact that our classroom lacks many basic supplies needed to perform laboratory investigations, I am determined to provide quality hands-on experiences for my students.

My class is very fortunate to have enough microscopes for students to work in pairs. In this proposal I am asking for various slides for them to look at under these microscopes. Not only will this selection of slides allow the students to compare plant and animal cells, they will also be used when we study mitosis, plant structure, and muscles. The magnifying glasses that I have requested will help my students make careful observations when we study plants and other organisms.

Your support will help my students learn to make careful observations during lab investigations, but more importantly, keep them excited about science and give this classroom tools that they can use year after year.
