Oh The Places We Are Going! I teach in a high needs community in Missouri and my second graders are on a mission! As a class, we have committed to growing two years during this school year in reading, math and writing.

Here's the situation. I currently have 28 students in a small classroom on the second floor of my school. The noise from the school and the loud noises from the neighborhood prevent my students from being able to work successfully in small groups. Also, with such a high class size, it is impossible for me to read one on one with each student during a given day. My students have the desire to learn and a willingness to read, and yet, I cannot work with each of my students on their fluency, since that requires direct verbal reading practice.

Therefore, I need help! I know that it is difficult to find additional help for my classroom, or change the level of noise that comes from my neighborhood/school, but I know that with a listening center, my students will be able to tune out the noise and tune into learning. The listening center will let my students practice and improve their reading fluency scores. The center will encourage and promote reading confidence as students will follow along with the tape. Then, at another center, students will have the opportunity to work on their comprehension of the same book. This center will work as an additional aid in my classroom, helping to facilitate small group, differentiated instruction.

I know that it is hard to understand the impact of online donations, but I can promise you that your support will directly affect the success of my students this year. My students are bright, hardworking kids that need the foundational reading skills that will make them successful for years to come. Please be a part of the solution for my kids. We need your help!
