Science & Literacy - A Match Made in Heaven!!!

My students need 25 copies per month of "Current Science", produced by Weekly Reader.

I teach in a low income, Title I middle school in North Carolina. Many of our students live in foster homes or single parent homes with many siblings and cousins. The majority of our students ( over 90%) receive free/reduced lunch and are assigned a social worker. However, these challenges do not stop our students from challenging themselves and striving to learn and grow.

Our district, county and state like many others are facing a budget crisis that prevents any "non-essential funds" to be used for classroom materials. My students love to learn about the real world applications of science through magazines and newspaper articles. The labs, activities and discussions generated by such media have provided a deeper understanding of how science affects our lives. As a science teacher it is my goal to foster a love and inquiry for the natural world so that future generations will have scientists who make the world a better place.

By providing the funds for Current Science, you can aid in my quest to make science touch the lives of my students. These magazines will also improve the literacy skills of my students! By reading in a science content you will be able to provide a double dose of academic enrichment. Reading skills will improve while increasing the knowledge of science!

Your donation will surely help my students become better critical thinkers, readers and scientists.
