A Balancing Act!

My students need two digital balances.

I am requesting two digital balances for use in my ninth grade Physical Science classes' laboratories. I am a high school teacher in a small, rural city in South Carolina, and in a critical needs high school. We are the only high school in our town, and serve many high poverty families.

Our class sizes are large, averaging between 28-36 students. This presents a unique challenge when it comes to laboratory time: I currently have access to 4 digital balances, but desperately need more. We have 50-minute labs, but due to the sheer number of students and limited supplies, frequently cannot finish a whole lab because the students are forced to share supplies, which results in loss of valuable time in laboratories.

I am requesting two additional digital balances, bringing my class total to six, so that every two of my twelve lab stations can share one balance, thus reducing wait time. This will allow the students to completely finish labs that otherwise they couldn't have.

As students prepare for college science, it is imperative that we expose them to instrumentation such as digital balances, that they will be required to use and understand upon entering college labs. Your help will ensure that my students have this knowledge and understanding. You will make it possible for us to be able to spend more time with this technology.
