Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in a high poverty elementary school in a large district in Oklahoma. I have a high population of English language learners.

I teach in a Reading First school so it can be difficult to get the math manipulatives that I need. I want to do as many cross curricular activities as possible. My goal is to create a math literature center to engage my students as they are learning math concepts. The problem is I don't have the materials needed to set up this type of listening center.

I need two complete sets of math literature listening centers with the manipulatives to not only teach math concepts but to increase language skills in my students. These centers will be put out weekly along with the math concept being learned and as a way for my students to review what they have learned already. My listening center is always popular with my students because they love to be read to. These sets will also give them a way to work with the concepts and give them one more chance to practice, learn, and have fun at the same time.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to get the chance they need to succeed in math and in building their language skills. Every time they hear it, see it, and do it is another opportunity for the skill they are working on to stick. Your help will ensure that this happens for my students.
