Hello! We are an AP Environmental Science class in the great show-me state! This year we will be embarking on many field tests, because the best way to learn Environmental Science is in the environment! We are getting out of the classroom and into the great outdoors like my students have never experienced before!

To aid in our field experiences, we need testing equipment to use in the field. However, we do not have a budget to do so in our school. We are in a high need community, and as such the funding is missing. My students are so excited to learn about water quality testing, and this will be a big part of our class. It directly relates to topics on the AP exam, which we hope to achieve a 3 or higher on! In order to do so, we need more field testing equipment so that more students can get their hands on the environment.

We would like to get two new digital meters. This will enable students to test the pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, and total dissolved solids of any body of water. We are going to use the meters at a pond across from the school, as well as on field trips to a local river and streams. Having these meters will eliminate the need for harsh chemical testing kits, and will make data collection much easier! In addition to the meters, we are requesting a powerful computer software called Logger Pro. This program will allow us to collect data and import it on our computers at school. From here, we can examine graphs, import GPS data from another sensor, and map our results. We can also use the software to examine the data to aid in science fair projects as well as water quality testing, soil testing, and other experiments in the classroom.

With your help, we can expand and enhance our environmental science program. Students who work hands-on with the topics on the AP test will have a greater chance of remembering them and being more successful! Learning in the field is not only more fun, but also helps create more ownership in our environment! Please help my students gain an appreciation for the world we live in and achieve higher scores on their AP tests!
