Cultivating A Love For Reading In All Disciplines

My students need a collection of 50 science fiction and nonfiction books.

I am a science teacher working in a high-poverty area filled with a diverse set of learners, some from across the globe, all with unique needs and endless talent.

Why do I need to read? It's a question that I deal with almost everyday with students and their endless battle with rigorous textbook writing. They read the chapters, but still seem to be unattached to the material, unable to dissect the complexity of the textbook and really apply their reading. This will also be an opportunity for struggling readers to get additional help from myself as well as their English instructors. Its all about working together in order to give each student the very best chance to succeed. It will also help these students get off to a great start for their college careers in terms of working with upper level reading material and making sense of their learning. It will also begin to expand their ability to synthesize the material and solve ethical dilemmas presented within the novels and within the classroom itself.

It is my hope to provide students with an array of both fiction and non-fiction science books to aid with learning and material retention. I hope to utilize class reading of popular and interesting science-fiction novels in order to peak the interest of all students and allow them to grow not only in science but also cultivate their literary content and exposure.

With your donation, you will be giving a never ending contribution to the lives and learning of the future generations of our world. This project will open up the content to a variety of students and will allow them to explore the world of science in a different manner. Your donation will also help these children see that someone else cares about their learning experience, about their success.
