Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the lead science teacher in a diverse urban school. I see a total of 1200 amazing kids every day. I want my students to become skilled, passionate, and habitual lifelong learners. However, it's no secret that most students are not eating healthy.

I want my students to develop healthy eating skills. Students come to school without eating a nutritious breakfast, often they feel a bag of chips is a good breakfast. Thus the urgency towards teaching my students about good nutrition

To do this I want to make my students healthy snacks with a compact Food Dehydrator and trays. The foods that we would dry would be from our school lunch, including fruits and vegetables, instead of throwing the food away. Through this process my students will learn how to observe through sight and touch, while learning about how water can be extracted from food through the use of heat and airflow.
