A Team Job Openings for our School Competition Fundraisers!

My students need 18 different cooking supplies such as cake boards, thermometers, pans, dishes, a donut cutter, and ladles.

I am the high school culinary arts chef instructor for a small country school district in South Carolina. We are a priority school with 3 schools in the district. My food lab and class room are located about 4 miles from the high school. I instruct culinary arts I and II in basic to advanced culinary arts skills in career preparation and college training. These students are in 9th to 12th grade and most of them are classified as disadvantaged students and about 99% Afro-American. I have several special education students mainstreamed in my program. These students need a lot of hand on and visual theory training to build skills for future employment and possibly college.

My small rural district is awesome and they have purchased me a TV, a fully working computer, and DVD player for the next school year. With a small operational budget, state budget cuts, and having to set back $4,000.00 a school year to for the propane gas to heat our water and cook with, purchase weekly food and paper supplies for the lessons, it leaves very little for extra items we need. I depend on finding other funding sources to improve what exposure my students receive as to what they should learn or work with in a two year program. The classes need to learn how to compete in cooking competitions that are held across the country at student organization regional, state and national levels. I have to start early working with the classes to start a "Family,Career, and Community Leaders of America" student organization again this year, and have them do a series of cooking and baking fundraisers for the South Carolina regional competition expenses in early 2010. We will be holding several food production fundraisers to get these students ready to compete. With the supplies requested from you, the new A-Team members will solve our problems in dealing with quantity production.

The A-Teams plans a missions to help provide things that our culinary arts students can use to do preparation of foods for the fundraiser, produce foods in quantity, sell foods, package food, handle money, and develop team work and build skills for their career.  First fund raiser the will be a hot wing sale and use the tools and equipment: 2 gallon storage container and lid for the hot sauce, thermometers for food safety, the roaster to keep all the wings hot after frying them, the dipper for measuring of ingredients, the small white bowl for hot sauce and ranch dressing, the plate to serve the food on, the ladle for adding sauce to the wings, and the chafing pans to hold the French fries.  The second one will be to sell slices of cake. The following is the list of what will be used for that fundraiser: The dipper for measuring. The white bowls for ingredients, the cake circles for the baked cakes to rest on, and the cake tips for decorating the cakes.  The third fundraiser will be one that has students using the fountain to dip chocolate from with fruit and marshmallows, prepare yeast doughnuts using the doughnut cutter, and the platters and trays to hold the doughnuts they prepare.d the platters and trays to hold the doughnuts they prepare.

This school has never competed in a regional, state or national cooking events, and I am taking them towards this goal. I have several A-Team employment openings to fill this fall. With donors like you and the Donor’s Choose organization, I can complete areas of student training which otherwise could not happen. I am working every day trying to advance them and to launch them into a career position or help them get to a culinary school. Join the A-Team grant team.
