I teach five food classes at a public high school to students in grades 9-12 in a rural area. My students are composed of gifted to special needs and many times are mixed in the same class. The classes I teach are Foods, Nutrition and Wellness; Food Science; and Culinary Arts. Our community expects excellence from our schools and our school and school system have all met the "Adequate Yearly Progress" (AYP) for the 2009 school year. Many of my students are economically disadvantaged but they deserve the best possible education I can give them in my classes. Some of my students have competed in regional and state culinary arts competitions. After graduation, some of my students have attended Culinary Arts Schools such as La Cordon Bleu and Johnson and Wales majoring in areas such as hospitality, culinary arts, and hotel management.

My students need to observe teacher food demonstrations prior to completing a food lab to learn the skills and methods in the particular food preparation. Students in my classes also create their own unique food projects and present to their classmates. This uses high order thinking skills as well when they create these presentations.

A ceiling mounted video camera over the demonstration station will enable a classroom of 28 students to view the demonstration. I will be able to zoom in for close viewing. This will enable the students to take notes at their desks while viewing the food demonstration. This equipment will also use up to date technology to present lessons and food demonstrations.

Please make it possible for my students to learn food preparation skills using technology by funding this project. I do not have any other funds to use to purchase a camera and without your help I cannot make this happen.
