I teach 2nd grade in a public school in Massachusetts that is feeling the effects of our weak economy.

Having an interactive lesson, where students can participate in the learning, is so important when trying to reach every child in a class with 24 students. Currently, I am using a particle board easel with a pad of easel paper attached to it with a binder clips. It is very old and unsteady and so I don't feel safe allowing my students to come up and write on it. I use the easel several times a day for small and whole-group lessons, and it is quite difficult.

A sturdy, portable easel with a magnetic whiteboard would give my classroom the interactivity it needs to keep the students interested and involved. We would be able to use magnetic letters for spelling instruction and my students would finally be able to participate in their learning by coming up and writing on the easel themselves. Having the ability to move the easel around without worry, would allow the students to use their own work and ideas as an example when working in various parts of the room.

Our current economic situation does not just effect paychecks and mortgages. As a teacher, I usually spend countless amounts of my own money purchasing materials to help my student be successful. However, in these times we are forced to be more conservative with our spending and therefore I need to reach out to the community for help. This easel would be an integral part of our classroom routine and allow the students to be a part of their learning process.
