"Hey look! This is how you do it". Those are the words that I love to hear. I teach third and fourth grade students that need extra help in math. I work in a high need inner-city community.

These kids have already had their multiplication facts, yet they still struggle. How do I reach them so that they understand and can succeed in math? One way is to change the way of teaching. Each person learns best in their own way. Some learn by listening, some learn by doing. If I had a LCD projector, my students would be doing their lesson in math different ways.

The highest form of learning is to teach. I want to get these kids teaching and showing each other how to do math. I will put them on the computer board so they can see each other while they work. Kids take turns working the problem out on the projector. The best part is that you can project the book directly to the wall. No need to make an overhead transparency. Also, the lesson is taught on the computer. By having a projector, I could show the remedial lesson video provided by the publisher directly from the Internet to the screen. This would be one more method to teach math to my whole class, not just the few that sit in front of the computer.

Bringing technology to the classroom with a projector hooked up to the computer will allow me to be multi-modal. It will also allow all the students to have the benefit of experiencing the best way that they can learn. With your help we can help students make that breakthrough and exclaim "Oh, I get it!"
