Students in our program receive sheltered instruction and come with little or no English proficiency. Most of our ESL students have limited or no educational backgrounds, live in a low-income area, and belong to a Title I and Title III school. The majority of our student body is on free-reduced lunch. Despite their frustrations and challenges (including language), many of our students are bright and come with an intrinsic motivation to succeed.

We would greatly appreciate your help in funding visuals/models for our class. Many students are exposed to words, materials, science, etc… for the first time. Our students come from over 22 different countries and speak over 18 different languages. They are mystified yet scared. They want to achieve but need to understand both the content and language first in order to do so.

With visuals/models my students would be able to comprehend what they are learning quicker and maintain interest in science. This will definitely help him succeed not only in middle or high school but also in college. They will learn to seek out visuals for themselves.

We teach students 6-10 grades and want them to experience learning in a hands-on and positive way so that they may continue to do so in the future. Models are the building blocks of science and play an important role both in the classroom and in the outside sector.
