This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Digital Natives without the digital tools of the 21st Century cannot find success. Help my students become successful and ENGAGED in their learning with iPod Touches.

My students are in fourth grade at a public school in Colorado.

In the past ten years, the surrounding area has become a very low social economic neighborhood which is unable to give these children a wide variety of experiences. Due to the current economy many parents are recently out of work and/or just making ends meet. Having food on the table is the priority not providing books to read. Two-thirds of my students are reading at least two grade levels below fourth grade. Most students are also struggling with learning basic math facts such as addition, subtraction and multiplication. These children need these skills to be successful, but often lack the enthusiasm to sit and read a book. When given an iPod Touch students don't want to stop reading or practicing their math. It's a game to them, a learning tool to me.

My Project

Can a simple device enhance a student's learning? Yes! With your help my students will be able to create videos, podcasts, read ebooks, record their reading and practice their math facts in a style that today's children learn. When students are excited their own learning increases and expands. By introducing iPod Touches into the classroom my students will gain hands-on knowledge of 21st Century thinking skills such as critical thinking and problem solving strategies. These are the skills they will need to be active members of the future.
