My students need a HP netbook, a DVD/CD external drive, a mouse, a case, a jump drive, DVD discs, a HP all-in-one printer, and ink cartridges.

Approximately 80% of the children at our rural Kansas school are below poverty level, which makes it hard for our kindergartners to experience much technology outside of our classroom. In our classroom each year we try to incorporate technology by photographing and recording the students during different events (such as: During our Community Helpers unit we record each child dressed up telling us what they would like to be when they grow up and why.) in and out of our classroom. Toward the end of the year I gather all of the footage and pictures we have captured throughout the year. With this we then can create a video of all of our kindergartners experiences throughout kindergarten. This becomes quite a hit in our room. The children love seeing themselves and parents love to see what their children have been up to during centers, playtime, themematic units, virtual tours, trips, etc.

In kindergarten we enjoy taking little video clips or photographs of our little ones during centers, field trips, nature walks, experiments, etc. When we capture these moments we are able to expand and learn from the experiences by reviewing our results or events. However the lack of equipment hinders some of the events we could benefit from throughout the year. Unfortunately the resources needed are not ones we have access to, so we are not able to benefit from all the amazing learning experiences we have at hand.

Our class is in need of an HP netbook, an HP printer, an external DVD/CD drive, and accessories such as a mouse, ink, a jumpdrive, digital video discs, and a carrying case. With these supplies we would be able to explore life outside of our classroom and reflect on our findings. These resources would also allow us the opportunity to reflect and share these experiences with peers and/or parents.

By donating to our classroom you would be opening the door to a world otherwise inaccessible to our kindergartners. Our kindergartners learn so much when they are able to reflect on what they have learned throughout the year. Allowing children time to reflect on different themematic units, virtual tours, trips, etc. enables them to learn more from those experiences.
