My students need a WORKING computer to enhance access to all subjects and to use as a catalyst for learning in the classroom.

My Students

Help! The only student computer in our classroom is so old that it is waiting to be repaired more often then functioning for student use.

Our school is a collaborative model and my students are part of the SDC learning handicapped class including both 6th and 7th grade.

These students have varied academic ability levels and often unique learning styles that are most easily supported through multi sensory lessons. I utilize visual and kinesthetic aids whenever possible to support their learning. Some of my students have such limited fine motor skills that writing is not efficient and a computer would operate as an alternative and more functional way for these students to write. I also have students with low vision and a computer would offer an immediate way to magnify lessons, worksheets, and interactive software.

My Project

Our class focuses on functional academics with a life skills emphasis. Typical lessons utilizing lecture, worksheets, and workbooks can only go so far. The added benefit of a computer will allow my students to utilize interactive math and science programs as well as reading and language arts software. AR tests now require students to leave the classroom to find a functioning computer which is both disruptive to learning and often times not possible. The computer offers a fun engaging medium that is a way to assist these students towards reaching their potential. Any donation to this project would be greatly appreciated and will be making a difference in my students' lives.

Many of my students do not have a computer at home and our classroom computer is the only time they get to utilize such technology.

However, our current computer is so old it spends most of its time waiting to be repaired instead of functioning. This makes the impact of a new computer so great in the lives of special needs students who are working hard to make academic progress.
