Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach and my students attend a Title I school in a high need community. I teach journalism and get students to write. My students are mostly 11th and 12th; however, I just added a Journalism class. This is a great way to get students to express themselves and learn to write.

At the end of last year, many students wrote in their evaluations of journalism class that they would like more materials. This book, "Lengua Fresca: Latinos Writing on the Edge" would be great because it give voices to people from the Latino community and the students will relate.

If the students could get their own copy of this book, they would continue to use their reading skills while reading about materials they are interested in. It is difficult to get books into the classroom that specifically address the needs of the community.

Please help! These students are our future and need to have hope and understanding that their voices and concerns really matter. This book will expose students to the importance of their community.
