My students need 5 kinds of percussion instruments such as claves and maracas in order for them to learn about rhythm and experience the creation of music.

This fall my school opened a new high school and I am the music teacher. I have been teaching music to high need, special education students for the past 4 years.

At my school I work with high school, emotionally disturbed and mentally retarded kids. I have had success teaching percussion instruments to these populations before, and would love the opportunity to do it again!

My students are the first to attend this new high school opening this fall. As such, resources will be extremely limited. The music program has, essentially, no supplies. I believe that music is a universal language and is essential to enable students to have an expressive outlet. My students feel so much and giving them a voice is amazing.

By providing my students with various percussion instruments, I will be able to give them the outlet they are in need of. In addition, the success my students have onstage is often one of the few successes they experience. I believe these experiences are essential in order for students to develop properly and become successful members of society. Please inspire them with these beautiful instruments!
