Books to Augment My Lessons

My students need 35 books for language arts, art, and social science lessons.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach twenty curious and lovable first graders. The majority of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and most of them speak languages other than English at home. They are so motivated and make great progress over the course of the year. I am very proud to be their teacher. Not everything is perfect, however. I am constantly seeking ways in which to improve my teaching, my lessons, and the students' understanding. This grant is for thirty-five books specifically selected to address language arts, art, and social science lessons. For example, "Mouse Paint" is about primary and secondary colors. The series entitled "If I were..." (a Synonym, a Homonym, Alliteration, a Suffix, etc.) is perfect for addressing some of the more difficult language concepts. The book "This is San Francisco" will be used to explore our city and specific neighborhoods within. As most of my students are second language learners, the greater variety of ways I can present information, the more kids I can reach. After finishing presenting a book to the class, I put them on a bookshelf, where kids revisit them again and again. All of these books will be shared with other teachers, as all my materials are. They will be used for years to come for future classes. Thank you for supporting my teaching, our classroom, and public education!
