My 5th grade classroom needs Time For Kids, Weekly Reader News, and WR Current Health.

Our school is a 98% poverty urban school which serves multiple races and ethnicities. Our students come in every day ready to learn and are so enthusiastic about school. I enjoy being able to reach these students and provide them with a safe space to grow. My fifth graders are eager to learn and optimistic about their futures. My goal is for each of them to further their education either with college or a technical school.

I am passionate about giving my students every opportunity to succeed. One of the ways to do that is to teach them to care about what is going on in the world around them. I would love for them to have a broad range of reading materials to achieve this. Many of the textbooks and reading materials are antiquated and students have trouble relating to them. With your donation, these fifth graders will understand what goes on in the world around them and know what to do to succeed in it.

I am in need of various periodicals to address the current events, along with allowing students to experience different types of reading materials to make them familiar with the layout. The work I did this past year proved extremely beneficial, and I hope to stretch that even further next year! I have included various levels of these magazines to differentiate reading levels for students. The "World Report Edition" would be used during Whole Group Social Studies, as would the "Around the World" supplement during Geography. The "News Scoop Edition" (Grades 2-3) and the "Weekly Reader News" (Grades 4-6) would be used for differentiated independent study. I will use "Current Health" during my Health and Science times to keep students up to date on what is going on in the health and biological fields.

With your help, my students will be able to have the world at their fingertips! My hope is to raise students with more worldly views so that one day they can make a difference.
