Making History Easier To Read For Special Needs Kids

My students need two sets of reading materials and a carpet to use as a floor map for them to connect with US and world history.

I teach special needs students with various reading difficulties in a high poverty urban school. These students participate is community based program and miss out on most general education classes such as American and World History.

There is a whole world out there our students don't know about simply because they can't read at grade level. It is an absolute travesty that they are missing out on so much history. They have a right to learn about things like Neil Armstrong or World War II just like any other student

This is why I am asking for these reading materials and a carpet to use as a floor map. The requested reading materials provide topics such as World War I, The Great Depression, The Lunar Landing and more at a reading level they can comprehend and make it interesting. It is so neat to see our students be able to fully participate in a classroom discussion all because they can fully understand the material. I am also asking for a giant carpet to use as a floor map so the students can visualize the different places in relationship to where they live.

Most of our students never get to experience of learning their history or the history of the world around them. Your contribution would allow us to begin connecting them to it. Please help or students begin to better understand the world around them and learn their history. Please give them the power to simply be active participating students in their classes.
