My students need several multi-language books to participate in a literacy bag program that will help develop pre-reading skills.

Literacy hungry Pre-K students are in need of supplies for literacy bags to develop pre-reading skills and love for books.

We are a first year classroom that is still building our supply list. We have a diverse group of children with multiple languages and ability levels, but are all excited about and intrigued with books. Many of our students do not have books at home because of low income.

We plan to implement a literacy bag program where the children can check out a bag of their choosing. Each bag will contain a book, a letter to the parent(s), activities related to the book, a stuffed animal, and a journal where the children and parents can write down something they liked about the book or activities. The next child and parent that checks the bag out can read the comments and leave their own as well. The bags will encourage parent involvement, early literacy skills, responsibility, and love for reading.

Your help will span through generations. The bags will be used for years to come. Building a love for books at a young age makes a huge difference as the children begin to learn how to read. The bags also offer parents guidance, who may not feel confident in working or teaching their children. Your generosity will supply the children with an opportunity to learn.
