Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Cold-Hot-Cold: What is it? Students will record, graph, and write a quadratic equation, by taking temperatures of water heating and cooling, then presenting their findings on the overhead projector. When students are presenting their findings on the overhead, they will compare their findings to previous graphical relationships learned in mathematics. These eighth grade regular education and English Language learners will be challenged to take their mathematics skills they are learning and intergrade them with the Scientific method. Students will also research how their findings influence their everyday life. This is a tremendous opportunity for students to cooperatively learn and see how their world around them relates strongly to mathematics.

An obstacle these students will face is presenting their findings on the overhead projector. The fan is broken on the projector and when it is working, it is not bright enough.

These students will need a high lumens overhead projector to reap the full benefits of the project. This overhead projector will enable students to effectively communicate with their peers and the world around them.

Your aid will help these eighth grade students achieve well beyond what is expected of an inner city eighth grade student. In addition, you will be helping these students to become successful life long learners in their community and beyond.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
