Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am presently a 2nd grade Language Arts teacher. We are a school with high risk students in an inner city setting. Most of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Due to the lack of background knowledge and vast array of video games and television shows, our children find it difficult to comprehend and formulate opinions. They are becoming less proficient in these areas and become more frustrated progress to the next grade.

The Word Study Classification Center and Word Building Fun Activity Center are great hands on activities which use all three learning sources- visual,kinesthetic and auditory that enables children to retain information more readily. The Reading Comprehension Mystery Readers and Who,What,When,Where Reading For Details promote more inquisitive and thought provoking minds. When used over and over again, they provide constant reinforcement and develop critical thinking which is essential for life long learning. In addition, working with words enable the students to work in a cooperative manner. These games and centers will enhance their reading and writing programs which is critical to their learning environment.

Your help is essential to providing critical thinking skills in both reading and writing. This will ensure success for all students and develop the ways and means to think independently. This is the ultimate goal of any reading and writing program and one of which I am trying to encourage in my students.
