Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach English language Arts and social studies to 5th graders in Massachusetts. We are a high need community and in my inclusion classroom, we need materials to teach the genre of historical fiction successfully.

Historical fiction is a genre that needs effective teaching and materials for students to be successful. We lack the materials to do this effectively.

This project will be able to provide my students with the effective materials, the requested books, to teach this genre and cover the highly loaded curriculum of social studies at the same time, and be proficient in the end. We would begin using the Vikings book I requested since we are starting this unit now. They would have guided reading, independent reading, or partner reading and use the literature to learn about this time. The school texts do not cover the information that is needed for the standardized testing the students HAVE to take.

You will make it possible for my students to cover the overloaded curriculum and the different genres at the same time and be proficient in the areas of history and ELA as well using materials they enjoy.
