Rhyme Time

My students need rhyming games and books to develop this skill. The request is for games which include "Sorting Houses" and "What Rhymes?" games. My students also need Phonemic Awareness CD Read-Alongs and Rhyming Books.

My students come from backgrounds with little exposure to literature. Students are from an inner-city school with 89% of the students on free and reduced price lunch. 63% of students are Hispanic, 18% Black, and 16% White. With limited exposure to books at home, the need for literacy enrichment is apparent. The materials requested will be part of a rhyming center in my classroom. I presently have a CD Cassette Player, but I’m in great need of Read-Alongs to establish this fantastic center with kid appeal in mind. These materials will be suitable for a variety of learning styles. In addition, hearing the book while looking at the page helps many students process more effectively. Exposure will build both background and vocabulary. Students will learn many things.

With limited exposure to books at home, the need for literacy enrichment is apparent. These materials will help with phonemic awareness and vocabulary which are both important parts of reading.

This request for books and games will aid in the development of these necessary skills. The rhyming games and books were chosen with kid appeal in mind. The rhyming sorting houses will make a great center as will the CD Phonemic Awareness Read-Alongs. I have also requested some What Rhymes? games which are fun and engaging. The flip books have colorful pictures which the students will need to explore to find ones that rhyme. These materials will also build essential vocabulary which is lacking in so many kids.

Studies indicate that the 4th grade slump in reading test scores is due to poor phonemic awareness. Please help my students develop the essential background needed to succeed!
